Alte Saline/Hallein and Salzburg/Austria
So, I got a scholarship from American Austrian Foundation. Through this
grant, I was able to attend Salzburg International Summer Academy for Fine Arts.
It was first time for me to visit Austria, so I got really excited.
There were about 15 courses that I could choose and I decided to take
jewellery making course instructed by Manuel Vilhena, who teaches in Oslo,
Taking the course with different people from different countries was
the most unforgettable moment. I learned a lot through this summer program..
Ahh… I already miss my friends amd Menual and Flora.
Salzburg Summer Academy is quite famous among European Artists. As
I expected, there were people from different countires such as Germany,
England, Italy, France, Thailand, and Korea (me).
The academy has two locations. One is on the top of mountain in Salzburg.
Actually, it is a “castle” as you can see the picture above. Isn’t it amazing that
you make your artwork in the castle? Since it is on the top of the mountain,
you have to take a cablecar everyday.
The jewellery class I took was held in a small town called Hallein. The town is
one hour away by bus. I was staying in Salzburg, so I took a bus everyday. My place
was very close to Mirabell Garden, which you can find in the movie ” Sound of Music”.
Salzburg is a beautiful city…
The picture above shows the another location of the academy. It is located
in Hallein. This building was used as a saltfactory. Actually, the name of
building is “Alte Saline.” You know the meaning of Salz? Salz means salt.
Salzburg used to be famous for salt. You can find many souvenior related with
Those white things are salt!!!
Every Thursday, we had a little concert. The guy ( I can’t remember his name..
sorry) has a really nice voice. And I found out that he went RISD and studied
Sculpture. I can’t remember why he moved to Austria, but he looked very
happy and relaxed. And the moment of listening to him singing was meditation
for the students including myself..
The lounge where students can rest or have a cup of coffee..
Inside of the academy. The students show their work made during the summer
in this incredable space.
The studio where the jewellery course was held. The last one shows my
workspace. I kept a lot of food!
